Political Science - Foreign Affairs Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Political Science - Foreign Affairs - Essay Example Some of the major reasons include commercial rivalries, religion, dynastic and territorial conflicts. The Thirty Years War began when the Roman emperor, Ferdinand II tried to impose the Roman Catholic absolutism on his empire. Consequently, the protestant nobles of Australia and Bohemia conflicted and rebelled against the decision of King Ferdinand for five years. In 1625, a dispute between Denmark and Germany arose where Denmark wanted to gain valuable territory in Germany. Sweden also conflicted with Poland where they fought for four years until 1929. After a struggle with Sweden, Poland attacked Russia, and the struggle lasted for five years. The wars were mainly fueled by political ambitions of some European countries to capture and exploit resources of others nations. In addition, religious conflicts accelerated the war since European countries were divided into three main religious groups. These included Calvinism, Roman Catholicism, and Lutheranism. Other participants in the war included France and Spain. According to the current situation in the Middle East, it is true that the region is experiencing a similar situation experienced in Europe during the Thirty Years War. Middle East is the home of many terrorist based groups such as Al-Qaida and Taliban. These sectarian and communal identities are eventually becoming more powerful and armed than national rules. In addition, conflicts in the Middle East are based on natural resource endowments, territorial rivalry, and religious affiliations. The outside actors such as the UN, NATO, and other peace organizations are unwilling and unable to stabilize the Middle East region completely. In his article â€Å"The Unraveling† Haass states clearly that the international order, especially the Post-Cold War order, is unraveling. Challenges facing the international laws are mainly global. Some of these challenges include cross-border terrorists flows, greenhouse gas emissions

Is there a link between volcanic eruption and climate change and what Essay

Is there a link between volcanic eruption and climate change and what the relationship between the two may be - Essay Example A., & Wilson, L. (2008). Donald Rapp in his book about climatic changes states that volcanic eruptions, though minor, are one of the factors for global warming, but injecting radiations into the earth’s atmosphere. Volcanos erupts huge amounts of ash, magma and sulfuric contents that remain in the environment, polluting it. (Rapp, D. (2008) When the issues regarding global warming got into discussions, human activities like the release of gases having CFC’s and burning of fossil fuels were considered as the primary factors for the climatic change. But some people disagree and claim that human activities pose less danger to our environment than natural procedures such as volcanic eruptions. This statement led human to study the affects of volcanic eruptions in detail. (Stenchikov, Georgiy L., Ingo Kirchner, Alan Robock, Hans-F. Graf, Juan Carlos Antuna, R. G. Grainger, Alyn Lambert, and Larry Thomason, 1998) Mount Pinatubo in Philippines got erupted on June 15, 1991, where approximately about 20 million tons of SO2 and ash particles spread into the air for more than 12 miles. The gases and solids that bumped into the atmosphere at the time Mount Pinatubo erupted lasted for 2 weeks in the air. Volcanic outbreak of this scale can shock earth’s climate, dropping the quantity of sun rays getting in the Earths shell, and altering atmospheric activity model. But the degree to which these changes happen, may vary. (Geology, sdsu; climatic effects of volcanic eruptions (2001). Extensive volcanic motion may precede only a couple of days, but the huge out break of solid ash and gases containing high sulfur content, may last for a long period of time. The erupted sulfuric gases convert themselves to â€Å"Sulfate Aerosols†. After the volcanic eruption, these aerosol particles may rest in the Earth’s stratosphere for as long as a

Self-monitoring and self-management of oral anti-coagulation therapy Essay

Self-monitoring and self-management of oral anti-coagulation therapy practice - Essay Example Today’s healthcare practice is changing rapidly and thus, provision of patient care and management is shifting from institutional-based management to home-based care where patients can test their status and manage the condition, especially for medical conditions that are not curable but only manageable such as diabetes. One of the testing and management practice being prompted and is gaining popularity in the healthcare sector is the Oral Anti-Coagulation Therapy Practice for patients (Ansell, et al., 2005). This paper concerns the designing of a plan aimed at changing our patients habit from that of going to the lab in hospitals and other healthcare facilities just to get their International Normalized Ratio (INR) testing done to getting these patients who have the capacity to learn how to use a home based testing device for INR instead of seeking lab based testing. The idea behind this concept is the fact that this process is fairly simple and if patients are well educated, they can easily do the test accurately and without any hustle (Baglin, et al., 2005). Besides, home based INR testing devices will be able to give results required in a very short while, actually immediately, just like it is the case for those diabetic patients who normally test for their daily levels of glucose. This is not the case when they seek lab based testing since the process takes 24 hours to get the results due to the large number of patients who might need the same service and the fact that in many instances, the medical practitioners do not match the number of patients.... It is a medical fact that any change in the health, lifestyle or drugs in a patient’s life could quickly interfere and alter the oral anticoagulant’s effectiveness in managing such conditions. What makes it even worse is the fact that each patient reacts differently to these drugs thus the need for regular monitoring of the therapy. However, I tend to think, based on reviews done, that there are strategies that could be used to improve the situation and have these patients self-monitor and self-manage their condition. The evidence based model for change has been derived from a thorough theoretical and research literature that is related to various research utilizations, change theory and the current evidence-based practice within the field (Rosswurm, 1992). This model has a guideline to medical practitioners for changing the normal practice to evidence based practice. Various stages have been proposed for effective implementation of this model. These start with step one where the need for change in the healthcare practice is done. In regard to this, the carrying out of an Oral Anti-Coagulation Therapy at home has been identified as the need for change where patients would have to test and manage their condition at home as is opposed to seeking lab testing. The need is therefore to help patients test their condition at home to establish their INR level within the required range. The reason for doing this comes from the fact that patients have been dissatisfied with the current trend of lab based testing which takes longer to process. The quality of the data got will also be reliable since it will be fresh and immediately established for quick action to

Advantages and Disadvantages of a Market Entry Strategy for SMEs Essay

Advantages and Disadvantages of a Market Entry Strategy for SMEs - Essay Example The risks associated with entry into a new and unfamiliar market can be reduced by applying pertinent market entry strategies. Under this strategy, exporting can be divided into two parts such as indirect exporting as well as direct exporting. Indirect exporting is referred as decreasing the producer’s risk by selling the manufacturer’s product in the foreign market with the help of others. On the other hand, direct exporting signifies that a company controls the export activities as well as sells the manufactured products directly to the foreign market. Therefore, in the direct exporting strategy producers have more control on the activities of a foreign market (Tielmann, 2010). In this paper, the benefits and the disadvantages of a foreign market entry approach about exporting of small and medium enterprises (SME’s) as well as multinational enterprise (MNE’s) are discussed. Evaluating the advantages as well as the disadvantages of market entry strategy is most important in order to develop SME’s exporting. Entry strategy of exporting for SME’s can be defined as sale of goods produced by the SME’s in the foreign market with the help of agents and distributors (Bendt & Skropska, 2011). The selection of optimal entry mode strategy is imperative for SMEs in the international marketing context in order to make their presence felt in the competitive foreign markets where there are a number of existing competitors present. SMEs have been observed to possess quite simple objectives as well as organisational structures. SMEs’ key aim is to make growth as well as development, which can be ensured by maximising the anticipated profit level. However, SME’s face resource and information constraints (Decker & Zhao, 2004).
